love takes miles
upcoming shows, archival set videos, the works
I am but a wiggly worm in this pluck of harpdom sending you this very short fall update. I'm overdue for a longer update including some gen-Ai thoughts (spoiler alert, SOCAN is suing Suno 🥳), but I wanted to share a few Toronto shows coming up this weekend + next week - which may/may not involve me whacking my harp with a funnel for ~10 minutes.

UPCOMING SHOWS THIS WEEKEND
aka solo harp set vs. eye-melting harp + guitar duo

Anna Johnson, Grace Scheele, & Hieronymos Harry Sunday, October 11 at 7pm Annette Studios, $20
I'll be playing a solo big harp set featuring unreleased music off my upcoming EP.
Anticipate textural, stream-of-consciousness harp boops alongside near-algorhythmic lingual repetitions. Plus a stacked bill of familiars and new friends for an eve of medieval tinged electrofolk, string drones, & yours truly.
Music Gallery's Avant XXI Festival
Wednesday, October 14 at 6pm
First Unitarian Church, PWYC $20-30
Guitarist Andrew Noseworthy and I will be opening the night with our duo harp/guitar pieces by composer Christopher Mayo from their latest album “Walk the Darkness Down”.
Employing rattling tones, dissonant guitar howls and haunting rhythmic unease, we'll be manifesting the perfect score to an October night.Â
on archiving live sets
My computer keeps reminding me I'm out of storage by 1. refusing to let my mouse move more than 1" at a time
telling me I can't download anything
asking me if I'd like to 'clean up'
aka my panic-bought new SSD storage cube and subsequent parade of files from one place to another has led me to finally form enough file name conventions to realize I have a sneaky backlog of live sets to share. ~semi-improvising~ live sets for the past who knows how long has meant that most of my artistic work has existed in one present moment, and dissipated shortly thereafter. I've been really grateful to the friends, organizers, and people such as yourself, dear divine reader, who have sent me videos after a show. It's thanks to ya'll I've got this lil mix of live ~moments~ to share. <3 <3 <3
SOME RECCOMENDATIONS:
Katamari Damacy any webpage across the interwebs with this sick, cute project by Alan.
Love Takes Miles by Cameron Winters. Got to learn this for a recent wedding gig, and really enjoyed.
Read City of Toronto's Music Industry Strategy which includes some neat comparisons of different policy approaches to the live music industry with case examples from other music-focused cities. (Would love to see a designated loading zone for venues implemented in Toronto in the future, would be a gamechanger for us non-flutists. especially on Bloor.)
<3 plucks & ..... <3
