WALK THE DARKNESS DOWN OUT NOW

and available to stream + gift to friends, or stick in your cassette player, or enjoy on a walk, or stare into a void too, or hear live this Saturday at Tranzac at 10pm (more on that later).

"Walk The Darkness Down" is a new album from composer Christopher Mayo featuring yours truly on harp and Andrew Noseworthy (guitar). There is a limited run of cassettes available for ye olde tapeheads. Christopher first approached me to record his piece It Could Be You Or You Or You for solo harp back in 2021. Inspired in part by some of my Soundcloud improvisations (a rabbit hole of 10-year old improvs), ICBYOYOY really creates this atmospheric tension -> release -> but then not quite resolved between its near-constant eighth notes, nail-scrapes-on-strings, and these long sustained notes. It's an intricate, yet open piece to play (check out the score here), and really gave me quite a bit of interpretive freedom in its indeterminacy.

A Sick, Sly Age is my current favorite off the album: in such gleeful spirited fervor was I to be required to hit my harp with a mallet and funnel while Andrew played these face melting guitar parts.

Or as Andrew put it, "The rattling thud of prepared harp punctuates an agonizingly slow guitar glissando in an intense hyperfixation on a single musical gesture."

We will be playing the album in its entirety TOMORROW, March 28th at 10pm in Tranzac's Southern Cross.

APRIL: JOANNA NEWSOM COVERS ON TOUR!

We're ta-da and ta-do-ing our way across Ontario to Quebec with round two of Joanna Newsom covers! I couldn't be more excited to Clam, Crab, Cockle, Cowrie with this exceedingly talented group of Joanna stans as we cover her music from Milk-Eyed Mender to Divers. We are selling out fast (~15 tickets left in Toronto!) so grab your ticket in advance as we likely won't have any availability at doors.

(p.s. if you came to July's show we will have some new tunes and some familiar favorites from last time <3)

SOME RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • obsessed with the sound design of Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness. Such classic computercore.

  • Descending from silks mid-air, Galadrial's Lothlorien from the Lord of the Rings Musical is a cookie treat of feel-goodness.

  • If I could be a lil trumpet bee in the untouchable arrangements of Jackson State University's marching band Sonic Boom of the South I would die happy. Listen to Sticky, watch their Rose Bowl performance, et al.
