ai ghostwriters, cassette club, wordpaloozas, and listicles ~(**)~
I suck at releasing music, I really do. As a somewhat perfectionist (or avoidant) in that sense, it’s hard to not constantly be tweaking - my preferred form of procrastination.
Sometimes I read about Spotify AI algorithms ghost writing hundreds of songs and wonder why sit on my hands when the bots are out for blood - their onward marching pace elevated by human overlord’s programming routines for quicker, royalty-free bucks. *cue melodramatic 19th century fainting spell*

So! As a bit of a self-challenge to be less perfection-y and more share-y, I’ve decided to join Bandcamp’s subscription platform to offer exclusive digital recordings.
Think of it as a lil cassette club where you get an EP's worth of tunes every month.

If you’re willing to forego a latte and a bagel or two rides on the TTC (~$5 USD), I promise to tantalize you with ~more experimental tanginess~ pulling either from new demos, experiments, live shows, and past material + collaborations.
and you’ll also receive all past + future releases on Bandcamp + satisfaction that you yourself are directly supporting alllllllllllll the harp-noisemaking.
If you’d rather not, that’s also totally chill. These Substack ramblings will always be free and Slipstreams/all the shows I organize with Odd Neighbour are PWYC to keep things budget friendly for the wallet conscious.
It’s kinda weird to put yourself out there, and I’d like to think this as more of a way to build a lil more intimate community for those interested in listening. If my music’s touched you in any way and you wanna hear more, this is just a way that you can support that endeavour and also get something hopefully cool in return.
next wednesday = WORDS words WoRds WORDS!!!

v v v v v v v v v v excited for the word-PALOOZA that will be next week’s Tranzac show. Arie and I are collaborating with writers Charlotte Joyce Kidd and Luc Mandl who will be reading some of their works live while we improvise.
I am also whipping out my cassette collection of spoken word and stories by Garrison Keillor, psychics, Playboy comedy routines, “the way to a woman’s heart”, life advice for teens, stock market advice (stocks > crypto), and Dr. Wayne W. Dyer’s 10-cassette collection as pictured below.

also I like lists and here’s one of free supportive things you can do for art + musicians:
recommending music to friends
requesting tunes from radio djs (yes, that’s still a thing)
curating + sharing a playlist of the tunes you love
engaging with artists (after a show, on social media, stalk them home…)
making dank memes
cast a spell on spotify algorithms
aaaaand lastly a list of Toronto bands I saw live in 2024 + liked:
Theo Vandenhoff A Fear Immortal + In The Throes Of Love: fav track Rosetta
Edmund Stay Warm Concrete
Masahiro Takahashi Humid Sun: fav track Sweltering drive
U.S. Girls: saw them at the Tranzac and the guitar fuzz melted my face off, impeccable
Mount Mural: rumor has it new music might be on the way…
thanks again for reading my lil monthly rant on shenanigans. stay tuned for next issue where I, myself, become chatGPT and charge you $2000/month to talk to me X_X
hugs and kisses,
